Detroit, MI // July 27, 2024
On July 27, 2024, the legendary pop-punk band Bowling For Soup electrified Detroit, Michigan, with a performance at the historic Saint Andrews Hall, celebrating the 20th anniversary of their iconic album, A Hangover You Don’t Deserve. With support from Keep Flying and Eternal Boy, the evening was set to be unforgettable.
As the lines wrapped around the building, the crowd buzzed with anticipation. Eternal Boy kicked off the night, energizing the audience and even connecting with Swifties by covering Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” Following them, Keep Flying brought ska vibes with their saxophone melodies, upbeat tempos, and distorted guitars, transforming the venue into a Warped Tour-like atmosphere, complete with circle pits and crowdsurfing.
The anticipation peaked as the lights dimmed for the final time. Chants of “Bowling For Soup” echoed through the hall as the band took the stage. The group played A Hangover You Don’t Deserve in its entirety, including other fan favorites delighting fans with hits like “1985,” “Ohio,” and “Almost.” True to form, the set was mixed with the band’s signature witty banter, including a lively debate about the best pizza, with Detroit naturally taking the top spot. Midway through the show, the band invited a fan on stage to spin a wheel that determined an additional song for the setlist, landing on “Punk Rock 101.” As a bonus, the lucky fan received a shirt and a guitar pick. In a playful twist, the band briefly interrupted the song to Rickroll the audience, complete with a choreographed dance sequence, before diving back in. The night came to an end with energetic performances of “High School Never Ends” and “Girl All The Bad Guys Want,” leaving the crowd buzzing with joy and nostalgia.
